Milan-- The outdoor clothing brand Napapijri has launched its flagship store on Via Manzoni in Milan. The stunning brand new store has a built-in gallery which features a large collection of Antarctica: The Global Warning photographs.
Napapijri, who has been a long time sponsor of Sebastian’s effort, will feature the show until Ocotber when it will move it to other of its locations across Europe and to Japan.
July 2008 – August 2008
High Arctic-- Sebastian launched his most ambitious effort to date with the Pax Arctica Initiative. Along with partner Luc Hardy and in association with Global Green, Pax Arctica brought nine international children to the High Canadian Arctic for a three week mission to document climate change. Assembled as The Young Ambassadors of the Arctic, the kids had an interactive experience with local Inuit culture, scientists doing fieldwork, and camping and traveling in the Wild. Sebastian produced a documentary retracing those experiences soon to be assembled into a one hour television piece. Details of the adventure can be found at:

Sebastian began working on his next book project in the region and spent an additional ten days traveling for the book in search of Polar Bears…

San Francisco-- Sebastian will speak as part of a panel at the Commonwealth Club at 6:30. The event-- Litquake Presents: Battling for the Environment: Stories from the Frontlines—assembles an illustrious panel of experts. Sebastian Copeland, Claire Hope Cummings, Thomas Kostigen, Jerry Mander and Christie Matheson will explain what is happening to the environment around the globe, and how we are being directly affected. Paris, France—As part of a focus on climate change, the largest European radio station RTL will host an week long panel featuring some of the most prominent European political figures. The location hosting this event will feature 27 large scale photographs of Antarctica: The Global Warning.

San Luis Obispo--Sebastian will be visiting Cal Poly for a lecture at the Spanos theater at 10 AM.
At 6:30 he will inaugurate a new show at the San Luis Obispo Art Center. The show will run through November 23rd..

Palais de Tokyo Paris, France—Sebastian was selected to participate in the prestigious HYPERLINK "http://www.prixpictet.com/home/" Prix Pictet Focusing on photography and Sustainability, the Pictet selected two hundred photographers from around the word. Sebastian is short listed along with eighteen other photographers, and will be showing eight large prints as part of the evening’s event. The winner will be awarded 100,000 Euros in cash and presented by ex-UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.

Munich, Germany—Sebastian was named one of Germany’s GQ Man of the Year for environmental leadership. The award ceremony takes place in Munich where Sebastian will address the audience about his advocacy work at the poles.

Iqualuit—Sebastian will be doing winter training in the Arctic in preparation of the expedition he will be leading to the North Pole in commemoration of Admiral Peary’s successful reach of the pole in 1909. The Centennial Peary Expedition will take place in March and April.
